Key Tips to Realize Your Business Goals

Key Tips to Realize Your Business Goals
The New Year is almost upon us, an ideal time for setting both personal and business goals. Goals give us direction and purpose. They help us clarify what we want for ourselves. Yet, it is often a challenge to stay on track and accomplish the goals we set. Here are some key tips to help ensure you are successful in meeting your goals.
Start Big and Then Break It Down
Consider what the ultimate outcome is that you are hoping to achieve in committing to your New Year’s goals. Are you looking to grow revenue from your business goals? Do you want to advance in your career? Are you hoping to establish yourself as a thought leader in your field? When you understand what the big picture goal is, it’s easier to strategize how to get there. Make sure you have a solid grasp on the reason you set this goal for yourself. This, along with remembering the big picture, will help you stay motivated and focused on your goal.

Once you have your big picture goal in mind, start breaking it down into smaller pieces. Figure out what steps are necessary in order to achieve it. Are you looking to improve your company’s culture with your business goals? Decide what that means specifically. Will more collaboration help or is there something you can do to improve communication or transparency? Look at the pieces of the main goal and decide what steps need to be taken to reach it. You may realize that only one part of your goal is achievable for this year. That’s okay! Having a realistic idea of what you can do will prevent you from becoming discouraged.

Make A Plan
Making a plan is critical when it comes to accomplishing your goals. Get specific about the steps you need to take, obstacles you may face, and any strategies you can use to keep you from veering off the path. Include your reason for working toward your goal. Your reason is a key element in keeping you motivated. Write your plan down. The process of getting everything out of your head and onto a piece of paper crystallizes what it is you want to accomplish and strengthens your commitment to your goal. Put your written plan someplace you’ll be sure to see it everyday.

Make Your Goal Public
Invite a colleague or mentor to be part of your plan and you gain their support and, at the same time, increase your accountability. Accountability is a great motivator! Your colleague can check in on you regularly, offer feedback and inspiration, or help strategize ways for you to achieve your objectives. They’ll feel invested in your success.

Celebrate Your Progress Along the Way
Set a target date for when you want to realize your goal. Working backwards from your overarching goal, break it down into smaller steps and set a deadline for each mini-goal. Get all these key dates in your calendar and celebrate as you accomplish these concrete victories!

Go For It!
The only thing keeping you from getting started is… you. So jump in! Take that courageous first step! Your plan may not be perfectly ironed out, but if you wait until it’s all figured out you may never get started. You can work things out as you go. You got this! Take the leap and see what positive changes you can make in your life!
